HISTORY
LTCCC, formerly the Nursing Home Community Coalition of New York,
was formed as an ad hoc coalition in the 1970s on the heels of nursing
home scandals in New York State. In 1982, because of a recognized
need for a persistent watchdog and advocate for long-term care residents,
LTCCC became a permanent coalition. It became incorporated
in 1989.
IN TWO
DECADES
In over two decades LTCCC has brought together many diverse groups
whose work led to successful improvements in the federal and state
public health codes, historically significant regulatory reform,
a landmark assisted living law, and upgrades in surveillance activities
and enforcement systems.
LTCCC's coalition membership includes consumer, civic and professional
organizations, and individuals from all parts of New York
State. Although regulatory agencies, organizations and individuals
involved in providing long term care are not eligible for
membership, LTCCC works with them and cooperates with them
to achieve the Coalition's goals.

LTCCC
has actively worked with the New York State Department of Health,
the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, NY State
legislators, the state attorney general and the governor's office
on its efforts to improve long term care. LTCCC is a member
of the National Citizens Coalition for Nursing Home Reform (NCCNHR).
